April 2006
Dear
friends,
This
is just a quick email to let you know that there was rebel
activity in our area today (Tues) and that Mongo is now
in the hands of the rebels.
However, don't panic, this sounds a lot worse than it is.
At around 1.30 today we heard some shots (maybe 10-12) being
fired at the other side of town near the Chadian military
base. The governement officials and forces left almost immediately
with no resistance, leaving the rebels to take over.
The
rebels came from the south east and most have headed on
to NDJ - their aim is to overthrow the president and not
to harm civilians. A number of French military aircraft
were coming and going this afternoon so the situation is
being monitored closely by them.
So
for the time being, I am staying with the Sauer family and
Kathrin, their teacher and we will lie low, hoping things
will blow over soon and that any change of governement will
happen quickly and peacefully. For the time being, Mongo
is a safe place for us to be.
Please
do pray for Chad at this time and for us too, that we'd
know the protection and peace of the Prince of Peace during
these days.
It's
funny, but I had planned to spend this afternoon writing
to you all to wish you a Happy Easter and to let you know
that I am settling well into life in Mongo so far and that
I think I'll be happy here. But, plans change!
Here
in Chad I'm certainly learning to live with the unexpected!
Much
love, Caroline
ps.
Don't expect my mobile to work as the network has been switched
off.
Email is still the best bet!
