April 2006
Dear
Friends,
I
write to you from NDJ, having arrived from Mongo yesterday.
Last
Saturday we received an email from SIL Africa Area urging
us to consider voluntary evacuation for the first few weeks
in May, when elections are taking place. The rebels have
threatened to disrupt during this time.
This
is also what the British embassy in Cameroon is recommending.
Also due to certain health conisiderations of one of the
members of our team, it was necessary for all the Guera
teams to come back as far as NDJ at least.
We
managed to get visas for Cameroon this morning. There is
an SIL guesthouse there, where a number of families are
already staying. Three more families, the German teachers
and I will travel out tomorrow. There is also a Baptist
guesthouse full of expats from other organisations.
While
it is disappointing to leave Mongo so soon after arriving
and while it's uncertain when/if we will go back, I understand
the reasons. I am trying to look forward to exploring Maroua
and enjoying the swimming pool there! I can also get on
with work and language learning as time/concentration allows.
Hopefully, if all stays calm, we can head back to the Guera
before rainy season.
Thank
you for your prayers and thoughts and emails over these
past weeks and I'd ask you to continue to pray for us and
Chad over the coming weeks,
Love
Caroline xx
