Title: All is not as it seems: a story of Peacemaking

Speaker: Rupert Ward

Scriptures: 2 Kings 6

Description: In a spontaneous sermon, responding to what God was saying and doing that morning gathering, Rupert uses a story from the life of Elisha to lift our eyes to see what God was doing then, and might be doing now in our city – that we don’t need to succumb to the fear of others around, but there is something more and bigger going on, that mostly we don’t see. There is a challenge for us to pray, that we might see too, and for us to give ourselves, to be rooted, for the blessing and benefit of those that live in our city.

Speaker: Rupert Ward

Scriptures: Mt 5:38-42; Gen 3:16-19; Rom 12:17-21

Description: There is a dominant story in our culture that violence is can be justified for a greater good; the end justifies the means. But this story is a lie, and has been called the “Myth of Redemptive Violence”. There is another story that Jesus calls his followers to immerse themselves in, to live and speak, but even in the church, this story has not been clearly heard for many centuries. But it was a different story at the time of the early church. So what is this story that Jesus calls his followers to? And how has this story been so lost in the church?
