Beinn A'Ghlo 25th November 2006

Date: Saturday 25th November 06
Distance: 10-12 miles
Height climbed: 1219 metres, 4000ft
Parking: Monzie, Loch Moraig
Grid ref: OS sheet 50 907673

Beinn A'Ghlo is a beautiful series of 3 munros: Carn Liath, Braigh Coire Chruinn-Bhalgain and Carn nan Gabhar situated just north-east of Blair Atholl off the A9. The complete round trip is a wonderful outing.

Details:

There were 22 walkers who left Edinburgh about 7am for Blair Atholl to climb 2 of the 3 Munro summits of Beinn A'Ghlo.
Ably organised and led by Derek Petrie, with a good smattering of experienced walkers as well as four children aged 9-15, here are some of their comments and photos.

A thoroughly enjoyable day. Had a brilliant time. David also - he was pretty tired but had found it thoroughly rewarding.

Organisation was brilliant. Good pace - averaged across all abilities. Safe. About the right length for the group. For those who'd like longer/more strenuous there's always other opportunities. These events are more about being part of a larger group so obviously there is a compromise. You got it right.

Felt brilliant about it on Sunday and in Rupert's talk about the 'community'/cell groups etc, felt like I'd had a thoroughly good 'connecting' the day before. Would love to do it again...Please keep it up - a great day.

Adam Hook (aged 9)
I thought it was fantastic. I quite liked the boggy bit actually. I actually quite liked going up the second munro but only because the wind was blowing at our backs but coming down was fun. And after that most of it was great but the only thing I can really say is that it was fantastic. Adam Hook age 9

I enjoyed the day immensely ....I found that I struck gold with every chat and as well as that got to know some regulars at CCE .. a little better (as well some non regulars and some non CCE’ers also)...The third aspect for me is the leadership and choices made...good job well done. I liked the fact that a) you’d reckied it the week before b) you called the route back over the top – which despite the deteriorating weather I think saved us time and boggy effort c) you made sure that the last person was a strong experienced walker..Finally many thanks to you for being willing to lead it and to the team who are willing to lead days out generally.

I thought the trip went tremendously well and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I think the level of information and organisation was very appropriate, and would be difficult to improve upon.

I have to say it was very well organised and I can't think of it being done any better from my point of view, so ta! It was just what I needed - good chance to catch up with some lovely folk and do it slowly - also fantastic to be out in the hills again in winter - mountains with their make-up on are just lovely!
